《天气预爆》是肖央导演的第二部电影作品，这种神仙下凡来到现实生活的题材，在之前的国内电影作品中非常少见。肖央说：“神仙的故事也是中国传统文化的一部分，神仙的形象其实也是人们对真善美向往的一种体现。我就打开脑洞想了一下，如果神仙来到现在的生活中，会是什么样子？各种反差冲突集合在一起，肯定非常有趣。我就写了这样的一个故事。”肖央坦言创作时就想把这个故事放在石家庄，一来因为石家庄是华北有代表性的大城市；二来自己对这里的生活比较熟悉。
